Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Global-Level Print Settings and Impact on Plan-Level Print Settings

This FAQ answers common questions about Global Print Settings and Plan-Level Print Settings within the DC Compliance module.

What are Global Print Settings?

Global Print Settings allow administrators to establish company-code default print styles and page orientations for reports, statements, grids, and user-defined grids.

These settings provide a consistent reporting experience across all plans within a company code.

Why don't I see Print Styles and Page Orientations on the Global Print Settings page?

This portion of the page may not be visible because:

  • Global Print Settings has not been enabled for your company code.
  • Your user account lacks the necessary permissions.

Contact your company's Master User or administrator for assistance.

Who can enable Global Print Settings?

Only a Master User can enable the feature through Administrative Tasks > Account Profile

Who can modify Global Print Settings?

Only users with Edit permission for DC Global Print Settings can make changes.

Users assigned None permission can view the page but cannot update settings.

Why is there a Global Default Parameters Help link?

The Help link provides:

  • Feature explanations
  • Setup instructions
  • Permission information
  • Descriptions of available actions
  • Important warnings regarding updates and replacements

It is available to all users regardless of permissions.

How are default print settings initially determined?

For existing company codes, FTWilliam analyzed historical usage and identified the most commonly used Print Style and Page Orientation for each report.

Those values were set as the initial company code defaults.

What are the default settings for a newly created company code?

New company codes begin with the following settings for all reports:

  • Print Style: Intermediate
  • Orientation: Portrait

What does "Update Company Code Default Settings" do?

This option changes the company-code default settings for all reports, statements, and grids, and updates reports, statements, or grids in plans that are currently using default values.

Plan-level reports, statements, and grids with customized settings remain unchanged.

What does "Replace All Report Settings at All Plans" do?

This option forces all plans, all plan years, and all reports to use the selected Global Print Settings.

It replaces existing plan-level settings.

What is the difference between the two global update options?

Update Company Code Default Settings

Updates:

  • Company defaults
  • Plans already using company defaults

Does not update plan-level reports, statements, or grids with customized settings.

Replace All Report Settings at All Plans

Updates:

  • All plans
  • All plan years
  • All reports
  • All statements
  • All grids

regardless of existing settings.

Can global changes be undone?

No.

The system displays confirmation messages before changes are applied because the actions cannot be reversed automatically.

How can I identify plans that do not match company defaults?

Use the Download File option on the Global Print Settings page.

The report identifies reports by plan and plan year with report settings that differ from company defaults.

Can I customize settings for individual plans?

Yes.

Plan-Level Print Settings allow reports within a specific plan and plan year to use settings different from the company defaults.

What does the Default column mean on the Plan-Level Print Settings page?

Yes

The report's Print Style and Page Orientation match the company defaults.

No

At least one setting differs from the company defaults.

The "No" value is clickable and can be used to restore the report to company defaults.

What happens when I click a "No" link?

The report is restored to the company's default:

  • Print Style
  • Page Orientation

The Default indicator then changes back to Yes.

Can I change all reports in a plan year at one time?

Yes.

Use the Change All Reports option on the Plan-Level Print Settings page to apply the same Print Style and Page Orientation across all reports for the selected plan year.

Can I restore all reports in a plan year back to company defaults?

Yes.

The Plan-Level Print Settings page includes an option to restore all reports in the plan year to the company's default settings.

What happens if I change all reports in a plan year to a custom style?

The reports will continue using the custom Print Style and Page Orientation until they are changed again or restored to company defaults.

These reports will display Default = No.

What reports are included in Global Print Settings?

Global Print Settings apply to:

  • Reports
  • Statements
  • Standard grids
  • User-defined grids

within the DC Compliance module.

What is the recommended approach for using Global Print Settings?

Most organizations should:

  1. Establish company-wide reporting standards using Global Print Settings.
  2. Apply those settings broadly across plans.
  3. Use Plan-Level Print Settings only for exceptions that require different formatting.

This approach provides consistency while preserving flexibility for unique plan requirements.
